2006:
Frank Pitters and Roland Navratil knew each others since the early 2000, back when Frank was the backliner for Edenbridge. They had also played together before (Frank on guitar and Roland on drums) in the band Free2Fly, released a demo, and it is during this period that the idea of creating Dignity came into their minds. The relation between Roland and Edenbridge were tense at that time, mainly because he was only seen as a drummer, and couldn't contribute as much as he wished. That's why he was interested in Dignity. Not long after, Frank and him met with John and Martin, who joined the ranks of Dignity.
Martin and Frank knew each others for quite a while already, and they had played in Invictus before, and released a demo. As for John, Roland knew him from civilian service. By the end of 2006, the band was working on the songs (Frank had already wrote most of them) and recorded some demos of the songs.
2007:
It is in 2007 that the band settled on which songs would appear on their debut album, and by doing so, there was only one more thing missing; a vocalist who could fit perfectly in the band. This is also when Roland finally left Edenbridge. They met with various vocalists, but none of them seemed to fit (they were looking for a perfect vocalist AND frontman ;)). But this didn't discourage them, a month later (May), they were recording the bass, the drums and the guitars in a studio in Vienne ("WildOneStudio). Quickly after, Martin finished his university degree (guitars) and decided to concentrate on the band, and the band hired Felipe Machado to work on the album's design. After almost 6 months of research, Jake E (Dreamland) completed the line-up we currently know.
" So we
checked a lot of bands that we
liked and Jake’s work with his
band Dreamland impressed us
a lot. So it was obvious to get
in contact with him. " - Frank Pitters
2008:
Quickly after, Jake started to work on the lyrics, and when he finally entered the studio in early 2008, he was ready to add the final touch to the album. The album was then mixed by Jonas Kjellgren ("Black Lounge Studios"), and mastered by Mike Jussila ("Finnvox Studio"). Six months later, Dignity signed with a metal label: Napalm Records.
"From the beginning on Napalm was the label where we wanted to go. Because we knew that Napalm makes an extraordinary job by promoting their bands. It's also a really big metal label that has a lot of power in the scene, so we gained a lot of attention. It really feels fantastic being part of the big Napalm family!"
- Frank Pitters
Their debut album, "Project Destiny", was released a few months later in Europe, quickly followed by it's release in North America and Japan. It was incredibly well received among the press and the fans of this genre, proclaimed "Album of the Year" by many.
